Bigfoot Construction Selected to Build Ponfeigh Distillery in Somerset County

Bigfoot Construction has been selected to lead the transformation of a former lumber manufacturing site into Ponfeigh Distillery, a nearly $5 million development that aims to revive Somerset County’s historic role in Pennsylvania rye whiskey production. The project is being led by founder Max Merrill, whose vision draws on generations of local heritage and time-tested Monongahela rye recipes. Once complete, the development will include a full distillery, tasting room, dining space, concert venue, and barrel storage facilities, all designed with a rustic, timber-framed aesthetic that honors the region’s roots.

Construction is planned to begin at the former 84 Lumber site near Stoystown Road in Somerset Township, following the completion of financing through First Commonwealth Bank and private investors. At full operation, the distillery is expected to support multiple production shifts and create new local jobs while serving as a hub for both Ponfeigh spirits and outside distillers.

Bigfoot Construction is proud to play a role in bringing this long-term vision to life and contributing to a project that blends economic development, craftsmanship, and Somerset County’s rich cultural history.
